Sour Cream Coffee Cake

This is one of those recipes that are handed down from Garden Clubs and Church’s.  It is always wonderful and welcoming.  When new people moved into our neighborhood, I would always bring them a cake.  I hope you find this recipe just as warm and welcoming as my neighbors did (or so they told me)

Sour Cream Coffee Cake

1 stick butter - room temperature

1 1/2 cups sugar

3 1/4 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup sour cream

3 eggs

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Filling/topping

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup cocoa

2 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350

Grease a tube pan or 9 x 13 cake pan

In a mixer bowl beat butter and sugar till creamy.

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt - set aside

Mix together sour cream, eggs, milk and vanilla

Add flour mixture alternating with sour cream mixture until totally combined.  Beat till just combined.

Combine brown sugar, cocoa and cinnamon for filling topping

Pour 1/2 of batter into pan, add 3/4 of topping to pan.  Pour rest of batter on top and finish with rest of topping.  Use a knife to marble batter.

Bake 55 minutes for the tube pan and 35 for the 9 x 13.

Let cool completely before removing from pan.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
